||Installation of 2012 Officers and Business Meeting|
|February 27th @ 7:00 pm||Van Hogan, immediate past president of the Historical Society of Orange Park, will present a program on the Orange Park Normal and Industrial School, located at the site of the current Town Hall at Highway 17 (Park Ave) and Kingsley Avenue. The American Missionary Association started the school in the late 19th century for the purpose of educating Black Students with a focus on preparing African-American Teachers, and how its success led to its demise in the segregated South.|

|May 21st @ 7:00 pm||Capt. Oehl is co-founder of the Aviation Museum and will discuss their mission that includes operating an aviation and space museum, restoring and displaying vintage aircraft and war birds, reviving Keystone Heights Airport’s rich military history, preserving the legacy of pioneer aviators, honoring the patriotic service of all veterans and many other activities. |June 25th @ 7:00 pm||The guest speakers for our June meeting are Bonita Deaton and Sylvia Wortham. Sisters with a love for Clay County, Mrs. Deaton will provide an interesting over view of the county’s history as it relates to her studies while researching information for the Clay County Parade of Memories book. Mrs. Wortham will trace the history of their family, the Cherry family that has deep roots of seven generations dating back to the 1800’s with a long history of public service in Clay County.||

Mitchell, the author of "Dear Miss Schneider, Please Excuse
and a frequent writer for
“The Pineapple Post”, www.pineapplepost-jb.com,
will discuss scanning photos and creating an online album.
The presentation will also include information on computer programs that can restore
damaged photos showing examples of original pictures,
and then how theyappear improved and published.
Mrs. Mitchell’s book “Dear Miss Schneider, Please Excuse Walter” is an archival collection
from her Mother’s occupation as a school teacher of the humorous and unusual excuse notes
received from her students during 1937-1940.

Spivey and Billy Brantley will be the guest speakers
Becoming a Floridian in the 6grade and gradating from Orange Park High School, Mr. Spivey who is an all-round Clay County Advocate will share some of his experiences as a County Commissioner, Historian, Writer, and Photographer. Wayne Spivey also recently starred as the lead role in the new "Life and Times of Robert. E. Lee" documentary.
Billy Brantley, a History Professor and Retired Principle of Robert E. Lee High School, who produced and directed the epic true movie will also be the guest speaker; the new"Life and Times of Robert. E. Lee" made its debut on Sunday, November 4th

farewell to member Gwen Sharp.
Mrs. Sharp has been a most gracious and essential member, not only to our organization yet also to many others. Everyone agrees, knowing Gwen has genuinely enhanced all of our personal lives, as well as greatly benefiting our local organizations.
Please join us in conjunction with the Clay County Council on Aging, and the Village Improvement Association, 17 Palmetto Avenue in Green Cove Springs, for a warm goodbye and best wishes.
Delicious refreshments served between 2:00-4:00pm, presentations begin at 3:00pm, with cheerfulness all afternoon.
